LONGETA (half-cast) – application way
LONGETA is a half-cast – a type of an immobilising dressing used to temporally limit the movement of the injured limb, especially in cases of fractures with trauma-caused oedemas, and open or comminuted fractures.
|1.||Prepare a water bath of temperature 20-22°C. Keep the recommended water temperature! Colder water extends, and hotter water shortens the moulding and setting time, and increases the amount of heat emitted by the cast after setting. It is unaccepteable to use water of temperature above 25°C.|
|2.||Put on gloves.|
|3.||Take out the LONGETA from the packaging and cut off the needed length.|
|4.||Fold the fragment in half.|
|5.||Dip the bandage in water at the angle of 45°. The dipping time should not be longer than 5 seconds.|
|6.||In the end lightly squeeze the bandage in the water. The short dipping time influences the toughness and quality of a ready plaster cast. It is unacceptable to leave the cast in water!|
|7.||After taking out from the bath squeeze out the excess of water. Put the LONGETA on a table and smooth it out with your hand.|
|8.||Put the layer of an orthopaedic padding on the LONGETA.|
|9.||Mould the plaster dressing keeping the moulding time of the applied kind of cast.|
|10.||Fix the LONGETA using a support bandage.|
|11.||After the application of the dressing provide full air circulation for about 20 minutes.|
